Getting started
- Install
Install the pack from the CurseForge app. It sets up Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge for you.
- Give it memory
Allocate at least 8 GB of RAM in CurseForge under Settings, Minecraft, Java settings. Less than that and large bases will stutter.
- Open the quest book
Start with the Welcome chapter, The disciplines of the Horizon Guild. It points you at every other chapter.
- Turn your first shaft
Make andesite alloy in the Create chapter. That one item unlocks the first page of the Horizon Logs.
Your first few hours
- Create first. Everything early runs on rotation: shafts, cogwheels, andesite casing, crushing wheels. The Create chapter walks you through it.
- Then leave the ground. Once you have a working kinetic setup, the Create Aeronautics chapter shows you how to turn a build into a flying vessel.
- Earn coins early. Coins pay for land claims and protection, so open the Lightman's Currency chapter before you settle down. Claimed land is not protected until you pay for it (see Land and claims).
- Pick a tech path. Immersive Engineering, Powah, Modern Industrialization, Oritech and AE2 each have their own chapter. You don't need to finish one before starting another.
Shaders are included. Iris is installed with Complementary shaders, which you can turn on from the shader packs menu in Video Settings.
Quest chapters
Each chapter is one school of the old Horizon Guild. Progress in any of them unlocks pages of the Horizon Logs, the story chapter. The last five are the allied schools: optional, but each adds its own corner of the story.

Airships
Create Aeronautics turns anything you build into a physics-simulated vessel. A ship needs four things: a structure, lift, thrust and a way to steer.
Anything properly built may leave the ground. Here is how.The Wind Charter
- Build the hull
Build your ship as normal blocks. Anything you place can fly, so keep it light at first.
- Add lift
Hot air (a burner under an envelope), steam lift, or levitite. Levitite is mixed, poured and heated, and solid levitite floats by itself.
- Add thrust
Propellers to start. Smart propellers steer as they push. Later, Create Propulsion thrusters and ion drives.
- Add controls
A helm or navigator's table to start. Aeroworks adds control desks, yokes, joysticks and throttle levers.
- Assemble
The physics assembler turns the build into a vessel. This is where a structure becomes a ship.
- Fly and dock
Go up slowly. Watch the altimeter. Tie the ship to something solid when you land.
Lift options
- Hot air: the oldest way to fly. Cheap, slow and forgiving.
- Steam lift: runs off your boiler setup and is easy to learn on.
- Levitite: the strongest lift. It wants to rise, so plan where it goes before you pour it.
- Sails and wings: catch lift as well as wind on fast ships.
Thrust and fuel
- Propellers: run straight off Create rotation.
- Thrusters: burn liquid fuel. Turpentine comes from pine resin.
- Ion thrusters: electric, silent and strong. They run on Powah or other FE power.
- Vectoring thrusters: tilt with a redstone signal so the ship leans into turns.
Instruments worth building
The altimeter and speedometer tell you where you are. The gimbal sensor reads whether you're level. Distance and docking sensors hum louder as you close on another ship, and magnets hold two ships together in a docking line.
Claim your vessel. Ships are registered to their owner. Scavengers fly too, and an unclaimed ship is fair game.
Other ways to fly
- Immersive Aircraft: small ready-made planes for quick trips.
- Create Jetpack: personal flight once you have the air supply.
- Create Big Cannons and Create Radars: arm your ship and track other vessels.
Coins and shops
The economy runs on Lightman's Currency. Coins are physical items, but you can also keep them in a bank account and pay with a card. Every coin is worth ten of the one below it.
| Coin | Copper value | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Copper | 1 | Small change |
| Iron | 10 | Everyday trades, cheap protections |
| Gold | 100 | A good meal and most protection upkeep |
| Emerald | 1,000 | Bigger purchases |
| Diamond | 10,000 | One chunk of land |
| Netherite | 100,000 | Force-loading a chunk for 5 minutes |
Carrying and saving
- Coin mint: turns metals into coins.
- Wallets: copper, iron, gold, emerald, diamond and netherite tiers, plus the Star-Bound Purse. Higher tiers hold more coins.
- ATM: deposit, withdraw and exchange coins. Your bank account pays for land and protection automatically.
- Card: pay from your account without carrying coins.
- Money chest: safe storage for physical coins.
Running a shop
- Trading core: the base of every shop.
- Vending machines: sell items. The large one holds more stock.
- Network traders and the trading terminal: trade with shops anywhere on the server without travelling.
- Trading house: many trades from a single counter.
- Toll gates and ticket stations: charge for passage on your roads, rails or docks.
- Lightman's Currency Tech: sell fluids and energy as well as items.
Land and claims
Land is claimed with FTB Chunks and paid for from your Lightman's Currency bank account, or your team's account if you're in an FTB Teams party. Claims are always visible to everyone on the map.
Claiming
Your team's first 20 chunks cost 1 diamond coin each. After that the price rises 5% for every 20 chunks you already own. The price depends on how many chunks you own right now, so unclaiming moves you back down a tier. Unclaiming refunds 80% of the price.
| Chunks you own | Price per chunk | In coins |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 19 | 10,000 | 1 diamond |
| 20 to 39 | 10,500 | 1 diamond5 gold |
| 40 to 59 | 11,025 | 1 diamond1 emerald2 iron5 copper |
| 60 to 79 | 11,576 | 1 diamond1 emerald5 gold7 iron6 copper |
| 80 to 99 | 12,155 | 1 diamond2 emerald1 gold5 iron5 copper |
| 100 to 119 | 12,762 | 1 diamond2 emerald7 gold6 iron2 copper |
Prices are in copper. If a claim is refused, deposit more coins at an ATM and try again.
Protection costs upkeep
A claim on its own doesn't protect anything. Each protection you switch on costs upkeep for every chunk it covers, charged every 5 minutes while at least one player is online anywhere on the server. Set protections from the claims menu. Its key is listed under LC FTB Hook in Controls.
| Protection | Per chunk, every 5 min |
|---|---|
| Block editing | 1 gold |
| Block interaction | 1 gold |
| Entity interaction | 1 gold |
| Item frames and armor stands | 1 gold |
| Mob griefing | 8 iron |
| Explosions | 7 iron |
| PvP | 5 iron |
| Machines acting as players | 5 iron |
Example: a 3×3 base (9 chunks) with block editing and explosion protection costs 9 × 170 = 1,530 copper every 5 minutes. That's 18,360 copper an hour, a little under 2 diamond coins. Only switch on what you need.
When you can't pay
Protections switch off one at a time until the bill is affordable. The region at the top of your list loses its protections first, and PvP protection is kept the longest. Everything comes back when you top up your account. Changes to protections and regions take effect at the next payment.
Regions
Claimed chunks are grouped into regions, and protections are set per region. Create regions in the claims menu and move chunks between them, so your vault can be locked down while your farm stays cheap.
Force-loading
Keeps a chunk's machines running when nobody is nearby. Switching it on is free, but each force-loaded chunk costs 1 netherite every 5 minutes while a member of your team is online. If you can't afford it, it waits in a queue and starts once you can.
Selling land
List claimed chunks with a price per chunk, and anyone allowed to buy can purchase them and become their private owner. Freshly claimed chunks can't be listed straight away. Team leaders can buy private chunks back for the team by paying the owner compensation.
War
Teams with claimed land can declare war on each other from the claims menu. Declaring war costs 2 times the target team's base upkeep, every period, for as long as the war runs. Each war declared against a team also raises that team's own upkeep. If the attacker runs out of money, the war pauses until their account is topped up.

Troubleshooting
The game crashes while loading
Open logs/debug.log in the instance folder and search for FATAL. A line like "is not a valid mod file" names the jar that broke loading.
A crash blaming FancyToasts with configManager is null almost always means a different mod failed first. Fix that one and FancyToasts loads fine.
Don't add mods for other versions
Every mod must be built for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. A jar for another Minecraft version (for example a 26.x build) stops the whole pack from loading. If an update pulls one in, disable it in CurseForge and install the 1.21.1 version.
Stutters and low FPS
Give the pack at least 8 GB of RAM. Turn shaders off if your graphics card struggles. Lower render distance before anything else, since airships and large factories add a lot to each chunk.
My protections turned off
Your account ran short on upkeep. Deposit coins at an ATM and they come back at the next payment. See Land and claims.
